Get a Library Card

Get a Library Card!  Two Easy Ways

1.  Apply for a Library Card in person

Stop by the Main Service Desk to present identification and proof of residency. Proof of residency can be a driver’s license, utility bill,

or other non-personal piece of mail addressed to you. If you are a student, we will need to see your student ID or your most recent school schedule.

You will select a PIN to access your online account and for reserving museum passes.

That’s it!  We’ll give you a card right away!

2. OR If it’s difficult for you to come in, you can apply for a library card online or by mail

Here’s what you need:

  • Fill out the form below
  • *Email a photocopy of your valid photo ID/ license or Passport with your current address to circ@sawyerfreelibrary.org. *Exception: City employees registering for a card do not need to attach an ID as long as they are using their city email as their contact.
  • If your photo ID does not have your current address you must also email us a photocopy of a piece of official mail with your name and current address.  Examples:  utility bill, rental agreement, mortgage statement, etc.
  • If you are a student, we will need to see your student ID or your most recent school schedule.
  • Once we have all your documents, we will create and mail you a full service library card.

OR

Mail a library card request with all necessary documents to:

Attn:  Circulation;  Sawyer Free Library;  2 Dale Avenue;  Gloucester, MA  01930

*If you are unable to provide identification and proof of residency, we can still provide you with a Local Use Only card.

With this card you will be able to use the digital and print resources from Sawyer Free Library only.  You will not be able to check out devices or use the resources of any other NOBLE libraries however.  To receive a Local Use Only card, come to the Main Desk and give us your address.  We will mail a postcard to you and when you return it to us that will serve as your proof of residency.  We can then give you a Local Use Only card until you can supply more required identification.

Children Using your card @ other libraries
Children of any age can get their own library card but a parent or guardian must give consent if they are under the age of 12.   You can use your card at just about any public library in Massachusetts. In addition you may use your library card number to get an eCard from the Boston Public Library where you will have access to the Boston Public Library’s Overdrive collection of eBooks and audiobooks!
