THE ART ADVISORY COMMITTEE
THE SAWYER FREE LIBRARY
The Art Advisory Committee sponsored the Annual Silent Auction during the month of November. This year 69 artists contributed 114 paintings which were exhibited in the Matz Gallery. The final vocal Auction and Preview Party took place on the library’s Main Floor on the evening of December 6th with over 100 patrons and art-lovers in attendance. Music was provided by Janine Lynch.
Proceeds from the Art Auction totaled $7,908.23. These profits allow for the purchase of Art Department books, DVDs and funding for art programs. Also, auction proceeds make possible the purchase of museum passes for the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
The Art Advisory Committee wishes to thanks the 69 artists who so generously contributed their art, as well as the many bidders for their enthusiastic support. We extend a special appreciation to Jack Good, our auctioneer, to Janine Lynch for the gifts of her talent and time, and to library administration and staff for their help and cooperation.
The Library sponsored and hosted the Annual Gloucester High School Student Art Festival during the month of May. A reception was held in the Friend Room where the students’ art was exhibited. Student work was also featured in the Matz Gallery.
This year two Mimi Ferrini Art Scholarships of $500 each were awarded to Amelia Mallard and July White. In addition, the Art Advisory Committee awarded a $500 scholarship to Kate Bresnahan.
